Yes you need to be 58 to go through the portal, but you don’t need to be 58 to simply be in the outlands. Anyone can be ported by a mage or summoned by a warlock into Shattrath city where there is a Grand Master for each profession. Skinning/Herbalism/Mining (gathering professions) can teach Master level my rogue was 42 and 300 skinning. Seems gathering is more dependent on your skill in the trade rather than your level. The crafting professions I would assume you need lvl45 (which you need for Master Fishing/Cooking as well)

Um, players will not travel through a portal in the Badlands to get to Outland, they will travel through a portal in the Blasted Lands to get to Outland.

Might want to change that.

Confirmed in the patch notes for 2.0.3 –

“Players will now need to be level 58 to pass through the Dark Portal.
(The Burning Crusade Expansion must be installed.)”

Now it’s still possible that a mage can port a lower player directly to an Outland zone, I’ve heard this rumor. But the official line is 58+ for BC access.

Hi John, thanks for stopping by. All the toons I used for my research were level 60, so I didn’t experience any level restrictions. I’d be happy to look this up for you in-game but all of the servers are down (beta + live). I’ve seen some folks saying it’s level 50, but I’ve also seen ppl saying you can’t even get into the Outlands unless you’re level 55 or 58. So I will have to look this up in the trainer window and get back to you, I’m sure it’s something ppl will want to know :)
